WineStone has been awarded Best Portuguese Producer at the 2026 Spring Edition Mundus Vini competition, reinforcing the international recognition of the quality and consistency of the group’s wines. One of the highlights of this year’s edition was Côtto Tinto 2024, which received the special “Best of Show Douro Red” award, given to the best red wine from the Douro region.
Considered one of the world’s most prestigious wine competitions, Mundus Vini gathered more than 12,000 wines, evaluated by an international panel of experts, making these awards particularly significant for producers and wine regions worldwide.
Pedro Pereira Gonçalves, CEO of WineStone, highlights these distinctions as “a reflection of the work carried out by the group across the various wine regions where it operates. Being recognised as Best Portuguese Producer in an international competition of this scale is a huge source of pride for the entire team, particularly the winemaking team led by David Baverstock. This award, together with the ‘Best of Show’ for Côtto Tinto 2024 and the various gold medals won by our wines, confirms the consistency, diversity and quality of the work we have been developing across the group’s estates.”
Founded in 1757, Quinta do Côtto is one of the oldest estates in the Douro Demarcated Region. Located between Mesão Frio and Peso da Régua, in the heart of the Baixo Corgo, the estate includes around 40 hectares of vineyards spread across steep slopes overlooking the Douro River. Many of the vines are over a century old and grow in schist soils at altitudes ranging from 120 to 430 metres, conditions that contribute to wines known for their elegance, freshness and character.
Produced from a selection of the finest Douro grape varieties from Baixo Corgo, Côtto Tinto 2024 expresses the character and identity of one of Portugal’s most iconic wine regions. In the glass, it shows a ruby colour, while on the nose it reveals aromas of wild berries with woody and balsamic notes. On the palate, it is elegant and harmonious, with medium body and balanced acidity, reflecting the freshness and complexity typical of Douro wines.
In addition to the recognition received by Côtto Tinto 2024, several other wines from the WineStone portfolio were awarded gold medals in this year’s competition, including Encantado Branco 2024, Ravasqueira Superior Tinto 2024, Krohn LBV 2019 and Pancas Sommelier Edition Tinto 2024, among other award-winning wines.
