Quinta do Côtto, one of the most historic and emblematic estates in the Douro Demarcated Region, has just received a major international accolade. Côtto 12 Barricas Red 2024 was awarded 95 points and a Gold Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious wine competitions.

Made from a blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Sousão – four of the Douro’s benchmark grape varieties – Côtto 12 Barricas Red 2024 reveals intense aromas of ripe black fruit and spices. On the palate, it stands out for its elegance and structure, supported by eight months of oak ageing, which gives it balance, depth and a long, engaging finish.

“This recognition is a source of enormous pride for the entire Quinta do Côtto team. Côtto 12 Barricas is born from a meticulous selection of grapes and reflects the work we carry out every day at this estate: creating wines with identity, elegance and deep respect for the terroir from which they originate. This distinction at the Decanter World Wine Awards reinforces the quality of the path we have been building and confirms the ability of Portuguese wines to stand out among the best in the world,” says Mafalda Bahia Machado, winemaker at Quinta do Côtto.

Widely regarded as one of the world’s most prestigious wine competitions, the Decanter World Wine Awards brought together around 17,000 wines from different origins in 2026, in an evaluation process conducted by international experts through rigorous blind tastings.
