What if a white wine could begin its journey with red grapes?

It can. And that is precisely the beauty of a Blanc de Noirs,  a wine made from red grapes, but crafted to reveal a bright, elegant and delicate expression.

The name itself comes from French: Blanc de Noirs, meaning “white from black grapes”. The secret lies not in the colour of the grapes, but in the art of handling them.

A different way of seeing red grapes

Although red grapes have coloured skins, their flesh is usually pale. By pressing the grapes gently and limiting contact between the juice and the skins, winemakers can preserve the naturally light colour of the juice.

From there, the winemaking follows the path of a white wine with freshness, precision and elegance at its heart.

From vineyard to bottle

For Vinha das Romãs Blanc de Noirs, the journey begins with two red varieties: Touriga Franca and Syrah.

The grapes are carefully harvested and pressed as whole bunches, with only the first fraction of the pressing selected. This delicate approach allows the wine to retain its freshness and finesse.

The juice then ferments in stainless steel before spending six months in new French oak barrels, with batonnage. Time and contact with the fine lees bring greater texture, depth and complexity to the final wine.

White in colour. Red at heart.

The result is a wine that challenges expectations.

Vinha das Romãs Blanc de Noirs reveals vibrant freshness and acidity alongside delicate notes of stone fruit and minerality, with a creamy texture and subtle hints of toast from its time in oak.

Elegant yet distinctive, it is a reminder that sometimes the most interesting wines are the ones that make us look at familiar things differently.
